With a cheeky name like Wileyfox, cool matching logo, and one of very few still ongoing Cyanogen Inc. alliances, the inexperienced but ambitious British makers of the affordable Storm and Swift smartphones couldn’t escape our radar again, as they just took the wraps off the low to mid-end Spark family.
Meant primarily for domestic sales, the three new Wileyfox devices range in price from £90 to £130, and all run Android Marshmallow-based Cyanogen OS 13 on the software side of things. Hardware-wise, the entry-level Spark is absolutely nothing to write home about, incorporating sub-par specs (by any standards), like 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, a quad-core MediaTek MT6735A processor, and 2,200 mAh battery.
The £115 Wileyfox Spark+, meanwhile, retains its brother’s 5-inch 720p display and tiny cell, fortunately bumping up the RAM and ROM to 2 and 16 gigs respectively, and also upgrading the 8MP rear-facing camera to a 13-megapixel shooter.
Finally, the Spark X stands out with a larger 5.5-inch HD screen, plus a fitting 3,000 mAh battery. All three phones pack the same exact SoC, sport identical 8MP front cams, and they’re similarly slender, at under 9 mm. Any Cyanogen OS-admiring takers?
